Welcome To Tender at The Desk and Stove!
Tender at The Desk and Stove, is an always free monthly newsletter offering personal essays, delicious recipes, interviews, and media recommendations all intended to nourish the body, mind, and spirit.
I engage with subjects like grief in all of its forms, decolonizing wellness, eating disorder recovery, divorce, queerness, and self-love. Some months feature an essay and others an interview that explores different spheres of wellness. Each month I also share recipe, book, television, film, and podcast recommendations along with my professional updates.
My hope is that Tender at the Desk and Stove supports readers in considering their own relationship to wellness and desire. My goal is to offer succor, resonance, and a clear tether to our interconnected yet fractured world, so that each of us may more easily find our way home to ourselves and our community.
Who is Laura Khoudari?
Well, she’s me: and I am the writer of Tender at The Desk and Stove. I am a leading trauma-informed wellness writer and the author of the book Lifting Heavy Things: Healing Trauma One Rep at a Time. My unique story, in unison with my training and expertise, helps me to inspire and enable people to live a full lifestyle in accordance with their own unique definition of wellness.
I am also an avid homecook with over forty years experience of keeping myself and others well fed. I bring my trauma-informed approach, along with my love of food to my storytelling. I have been writing food essays for over a decade, but they have mostly languished on my hard drive waiting for a home. And while they all need a little love and some edits, I have been enjoying revisiting and reworking them as I revisit and rework my own relationship to food.
These days I am called to write personal essays about eating disorder recovery, divorce, queerness, grief, and cooking for one. By writing about these difficult subjects I hope to build a container that invites readers to consider their own appetites, lifestyles, and pantries. And part of building that container is why I launched this newsletter.
